Draft Proposal

Draft Proposal
What Inspires You? An Investigation Into Inspiration.

I've thought long and hard about this project, and I must say that I am extremely excited about producing this project, because it will definitely give me a chance to test my abilities and maintain updated about all the skills I learned at Centennial.
It was very difficult to find a meaningful story to tell, and of course at the same time producing it so that it is interesting for the user. I chose to investigate in the notion of "inspiration". We all know that it exists, and we all use that word to describe things and/or events that cause us to become "inspired".
I would like to study the notion of "inspiration", but more deeply into what other people perceive "inspiration" to be like. The main part of the project will be me expressing what I feel "inspiration" is, and the things that help me become "inspired". For me at least, a cup of coffee, a sharpie and a sketchbook is all that I need to become inspired. I also need to relocate many, many times before I'm capable to find inspiration. Sometimes inspiration wakes me from my sleep... To me- inspiration exists- but only lives within that person, and we are the only ones who could see our own inspiration... nobody else can. However, once expressed other people are capable of viewing what your inspiration has helped you to accomplish.
I would like to reverse it around a little bit and have an area where I would ask people to tell me what they think inspiration is to them- and in return I would create what they think inspiration is to them- whether it be that they believe that their red teddy bear gives them that "creativity", or whatever it may be- I would use that idea and convert it into an experimental project. That project would portray then inspiration from me about their thoughts on inspiration.
In one section I would have a video about me explaining what I believe inspiration is, and of course this would have my background information, resume, and outlines. The last section would be what inspiration and my inspiration (the coffee, sharpie and sketchbook) has allowed me to achieve - which would be my portfolio area. Where each piece would be introduced within my sketchbook that I indeed to carry with me in many places. Perhaps a bit sketchy, but this actually would work well with my story, because my intent is to tell a story about me on a journey to find inspiration.
I don't have any concrete details about the project, but I wanted to show you this to see if this idea would work.

I've spent the entire weekend trying to find a meaningful story to promote myself as a freelance desginer. Most of the time was spent sitting on my patio- holding my sketchbook with a large sharpie and a TALL cup of coffee from Starbucks. After sitting there for three hours and I got nothing but a sunburnt and some mosquito bites. I sat inside my house, trying hard to adjust my eyes to "normal" colors, after being shot with sunlight for three hours... I'm still thinking- and now my sharpie is now dried out--- so much for that.

I needed a different plan of action- so I packed up my bag and headed to the Starbucks down the road. I bought myself a GRANDE Latte and sat in the patio... (this time I brought my sunglasses...) I started to think about- what does "inspiration" mean- what is it?

Inspiration I believe- is something that is non-tangible... it's like the breeze hitting against my skin as I sat there that afternoon... it's like the air that we breathe. We can't see it, but it's there... We believe that it's there and we know that it's there... just like electricity. We can't see it (well we can't see it with a nake eye), but we know that in order for something to happen, it needs to initiate something in order for us artists to come up with those "ideas". So inspiration does not really exist, but only when the person finds something that is inspiring that ideas begin to emerge and excite our minds.

I felt delirious... and a bit sick in my stomach because I really couldn't find anything that would be able to represent how and where I found my inspiration.

That night I laid down in my bed... restless and unable to fall asleep. Anxiety creeped up because I know that I only have three months to complete and lauch my website. I thought about all the things that I've been doing... I walked downstairs into my kitchen, and instead of having a cup of warm milk; I brewed a cup of decaf coffee and sat in my patio.

It was almost 3am... and I couldn't sleep at all. I began to think about what I've been doing these past couple of days. I looked at my sunburned shoulders... and thought to myself.
"I know where this is all coming from... I finally know."

Snapshots of how I come up with my ideas started to emerge before my eyes. Sitting at the patio with my coffee, sharpie and sketchbook... Starbucks... my patio... Those are my motifs and how I actually come up with my ideas. For me- (speaking only for myself), my inspirations depend solely on tranquility and a cup of coffee. I find inpiration from endless sittings with my coffeem, sharpie and sketchbook.

My inspiration comes suddenly... like a sudden blow from the midst of the air.

My story would be photographs of me trying to find inspiration, snapshots of me sitting and thinking in different settings - like the busy writer trying to find a meaningful story. The filmstrip would pull from one side of the stage to the other, and the colors filling in as they pause. The main page would have only two sections- one would be the story of Wyn Inspires- and the other section would be my portfolio which would be presented with my sketchbook and my coffee.

I would like the story of Wyn Inspires to explain my concept of inspiration and how I get my inspiration.

That's what I have so far... hopefully this will develop into something meaningful.
